Ongoing Training Hours

Hello everyone! We are a new program in the Portland,OR metro area and just completing our policy and operations manual. One of the topics that has come up among admin is the amount of required training hours. I tend to think of this like our K9 training, who are required to have 16 hours of training per month and pass annual standard certification.

Here are my initial thoughts: Initial training (upon selection to UAS team): Part 107 Training: 10 hours (this includes test prep and completion of the exam)

Law Enforcement UAS Operations: 24 hours (the ground school we went through was 30 hours)

Ongoing: Annual Training: 24 hours logged throughout the year Flight time: 2 hours per month (this can be training flights or deployments)

One of my plans is to have an 8-hour quarterly training - so the team members will have plenty of opportunities to train either in house or train with other local teams to get their required hours. Some of these standards can be waived by the UAS Program Coordinator based on the pilot's experience. Please let me know if your agency does something different or any other ideas/language you think I should include in our operations manual. Thanks!
