ABOUT US
LEDA is the premier organization for public safety drone standards and training. Founded by a core group of law enforcement officers in the Pacific Northwest who set out to build best practices for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), LEDA now serves the full public safety community, including law enforcement, fire, emergency management, and search and rescue, in the US and abroad.
Our mission: To create and implement best practices and standards of training for the use of drones in public safety.
We host training conferences across the country and create digital resources that help members build strong UAS programs. We draw on the deep knowledge and passion of our members, and we keep seeking out new information, new training and the best technology to serve public safety.

Public safety personnel face dangerous situations daily without proper visibility or tools to assess risks safely. LEDA provides professional training and certification for agencies to effectively deploy drones in emergency situations, giving responders real-time visibility before entering hazardous areas. Mass Gathering Event
Standard for UAS
LEDA has recently published its standard on use of drones for mass gathering events. This guide will help agencies create training, tactics and policy around the use of their drones for large scale (and small scale) events in their jurisdictions. With major events coming to the US this year and all the buzz around how drones may have been able to mitigate catastrophic events in the past had they been used, LEDA created this document to help establish the most effective way to deploy these critical assets at a time when they are in such high demand.
LEDA UAS Operations Standard
LEDA recently released our UAS Operations Standard for teams to use to build their programs. In it, we outline how and when drones should be used, how public safety programs should be set up and also what we should not be doing with drones. We recommend training hours and topics, and also outline best practices for specific principles of UAS deployments in the public safety vertical. Over the coming year, we will be releasing appendices outlining the specific deployment models for principles like tactical missions, crash/crime scene reconstruction, aerial search procedures, canine support, search and rescue and others.
