Staffing Shortages and Training
Hi,
We are small agency with around 62 authorized sworn, and around 50 sworn employed. As a result we are basically at patrol minimums every day, and often use OT to fill mins. Our UAS team has 8 people on it, a mix of sworn and non-sworn. Getting time for everyone to train at the same time is basically impossible these days. I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a novel way to compensate and still get training hours in. I was thinking about putting together self-paced/guided training modules, finding youtube videos and sending as many as I can to our Sac regional training days.
Any other created ideas people have come up with to keep folks training in a very constrained staffing environment?
Thanks!

Hello! We are a new team as well with a similar size department it sounds like. We have committed to doing 8-hour day team trainings quarterly. While this will cover our department's training standard, as a supervisor I challenge the team with some monthly skills trainings. Usually around the beginning of the month I'll put out a document for them to print and take with them on their patrols and train with. I've attached a copy of what I did last month.
