Countering Drones
Hello,
I was tasked with finding a way to "Counter Drones" during large public events or similar activities/events. I'm not referring to removing them from the sky mid flight. I'm referring to how do we safely control events airspace to limit the use of untrained or recitational users. I know we can apply for a TFR or put a NOTAM out there. The concern is the pilot who does not know the rules/laws outlined by the FAA who won't see the TFR or NOTAM. The ones who have tasked me with this are thinking worst case scenario of someone using a drone to target a VIP or something similar.
We have a local company that specializes in Remote ID detection, so we have that option. I know of some Cities who have implemented Ordinances regarding Drones.
Could a solution be one of the following?
Asking the public to declare drone usage before a City/PD event?
Providing proper Drone requirements outlined by the FAA to the public via social media?
TFR or NOTAM?
Any insight would be appreciated!
Thank you,
Anthony Chavez

Public education is always a good idea, whether you are having an event or not. I find the vast majority of violators are completely ignorant of the rules. I have yet to find a casual small drone operator who had any idea what a TRUST certificate is, and most of our population is in Class C airspace.
Kevin Fennessy didn't mention in his post what state he is in. If Indiana has access to Dedrone trailers, that would be a very good option to pursue.
I don't believe you would have any legal standing to ask the public to declare drone usage before, or even after an event. State/local control would likely be limited to restricting takeoff and landing areas, and even then, possibly only on public property.
